Merce Cunningham Dance Capsules: an ephemeral legacy is given concrete tools

In this presentation Merce Cunningham Trust trustee Trevor Carlson shares his explanation of the sensitive and delicate decisions made by Merce Cunningham regarding his body of work and the closure of his dance company. Questions include: why the Legacy Plan was structured as it was, including Cunningham’s participation in those decisions? What were the objectives toward the preservation initiatives including the transfer of items to the New York Public Library, the Walker Art Center, and to the Merce Cunningham Trust? And finally, how the decisions regarding such an ephemeral legacy have been put into action today given that there are concrete tools, the Dance Capsules, helping to keep alive the work of the late dancer and choreographer Merce Cunningham.
